I was bored so I just made my (current) "2010 top Metal Releases".
1: TRIPTYKON (SWI) "Eparistera Daimones" (2010/Century Media/Prowling Death Records)
Darkness at its peak. #tomgwarrior #hrgiger
Of course.
2: HIGH ON FIRE (US) "Snakes For The Divine" (2010/E1 Entertainment/Century Media)
So far, my all-time favorite HOF record. So much groove and intense guitar.
3: THE AUSTRASIAN GOAT (FRA) "Stains Of Resignation" (2010/Musicfearsatan)
Great discover. I remember I was at uni, bored as hell, I was only listening to obscure garage punk and black metal bands. This shit came out the same year than YEAR OF NO LIGHT's "Ausserwelt" on the same French record company and it pretty much introduces me to atmospheric music.
4/ MAGIC CIRCLE (US) "Magic Circle" (2013/Armageddom Shop)
My favorite record of 2013. I was introduced to this band by friends playing in a former local doom band. These pals are definitely into bands which sound "traditional", very connected to the roots of heavy metal music, and this record is the perfect example of this kind of tribute to. Do you like PAGAN ALTAR? You'll like MAGIC CIRCLE. I must be honest though, the second LP isn't that good.
5: HIGH SPIRITS (US) "Another Night" (2011/High Roller Records)
The 1980s, in 2011. So perfect.
6: BURZUM (NOR) "Belus" (2010/Byelobog Productions)
I've never cared of V. Vikernes's political views. This record came out when he got outta jail and I think it is the best he released since. It sounds pretty old-school, it was a relief to listen to new materials connected with his black metal roots though I really like his dark ambient and neofolk previous releases.
7: DARKTHRONE (NOR) "Circle The Wagons" (2010/Peaceville)
This specific DARKTHRONE's era is my favorite because it reminds me all the hiking sessions spent listening to "F.O.A.D.", "Dark Thrones And Black Flags" and, of course "Circle The Wagons". This is what you must listen to in the forests, on the mountains.
8: AUTOPSY (US) "Macabre Eternal" (2011/Peaceville)
First LP since 1995 "Shitfun" and a hella one. I must admit it's been years since I didn't listen to any of the newer releases, but I was in Paris when I discovered this record and I remember I couldn't listen to anything else than this one cruising in the streets. Brilliant comeback LP.
9/ MAIM (SWE) "Deceased To Exist" (2011/Soulseller Records)
Traditional old-school Swedish death metal sound has always been one of my favorite kind of metal music and since 2010 there was a shitload of bands playing this style of extreme music. "Deceased To Exist" was one of the first records I've been listening to in the begining of this decade and even repeatedly since it came out.
